Now Car bombs

We recently had a friend's daughter from Berlin stay with us for 10 days. A very nice, young and beautiful 28 y/o woman and she had a Germanic thoroughness to her sightseeing. One area that was removed from her itinerary was Mexico only a short 25 miles away from my home. I haven't written much about Mexico lately because it is depressing as the violence escalates and there is a civil war of sorts going on south of the border. Tourism in the border areas has suffered greatly and while I am sympathetic to the many good people suffering economic hardship in Mexico I cannot subject anyone that I feel responsible to enter a world where crime and violence are a constant reality.

Pray for Mexico and also pray that self indulgent Americans will stop the orgy of drug use that is fueling the problems in Mexico. A sensible USA drug policy would go a long way to reducing the power of the drug cartels but obvious and sensible solutions are not considered in this country as many billions each year are spent of drug enforcement and violating the civil liberties of our citizens at the same time. Legalize the major drugs and many of these problems - and government jobs - will disappear.
